NationAL Iota Foundation Jason C Eckles Scholarship
Brother Eckles was a dedicated undergraduate whose collegiate career consisted of balance which showed itself from fraternal through social life. Brother Eckles exemplified the qualities and characteristics of education excellence, civic engagement, and camaraderie throughout his collegiate career.
The Jason C Eckles Eastern Regional Scholarship honors members of Iota Phi Theta who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school and dedicated to the personification of fraternity principles. Each year, the selected outstanding applicants receive a scholarship of $500 to help fund their education.
The scholarship is open to undergraduate and alumni members of Iota Phi Theta who are registered with a chapter in the Eastern Region. Nominations for this award may be submitted by the student as a self-nomination with the inclusion of an essay on how you have exemplified the qualities of education excellence, civic engagement, and camaraderie throughout your collegiate career.
The National Iota Foundation has as its core precept to enhance and further education of African American and minority youth. The NIF is honoring our commitment to helping outstanding minority students who come from diverse backgrounds realize their maximum potential. The scholarship offer is based on the concept of a well-rounded undergraduate brother in need of monetary assistance for educational purposes.

Criteria
LEVEL OF AWARDS: The NIF’s Jason C Eckles Eastern Regional scholarship is $500 per academic year towards tuition or the purchase of textbooks.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: TO BE ELIGIBLE, A CANDIDATE MUST:
A. Be a member of Iota Phi Theta in good standing and attended a college or university for one (1) full semester prior to selection.
B. Be a recognized member of a financial chapter at time of application.
C. Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college/university in the United States. Applicant must include either a college transcript OR, certified letter from the Bursars office attesting to current enrollment at college/university.
D. Have an accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 OR BETTER on a 4.0 scale. Must provide proof of GPA from official school transcript.
E. A typed one page, 12 point font essay describing how you have exemplified the qualities of educational excellence, civil engagement, and camaraderie throughout your collegiate career.
Program Operation: The National Iota Foundation will allow the scholarship winner to apply for future scholarships no sooner than 6 months after award selection, provided the student maintains a 2.7 GPA at the time of re-application and IF FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE.
METHOD OF ACTION: All items must be completed for your application to be considered. The completed application must be received at the email address by the deadline (both listed below). STEP 2 – Additional information to submit via E-mail to easternsecretary@iotaphitheta.org:
· Photocopy of your membership card -OR- Fraternity Member ID number.
· Proof of Enrollment for the current semester in which the application is submitted.
· Copy of transcripts for proof of GPA requirements.
Completed applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis for upcoming academic sessions. The deadline for consideration for Spring 2025 is December 1, 2024.
